Urban Pacifika Records was formed in 1994 and was
the brain child of the late Phillip Fuemana.
UPR was the first indie record label owned & run
by Pacific Islanders and Phil was the driving force behind its
music & Image. You really can't talk about UPR without talking
about Phillip and the influence that Phillip had on the NZ music
industry was huge and opened the door to many other artists.
Phillip & UPR will always be remembered for his
pioneering work in music and his attention to detail, his love
for a challenge and his love for his family.
Phillip was the oldest in his family and his
influence over the family was huge,
Brother Tony and his group Pacific Tone was the
first Pacific music group to lock down the top five spots in the
first ever Internet music chart for 5 weeks and took the top 5
spots in Oceania and the pacific rim. Tony is also the current
director of UPR
Brother Pauly Fuemana became the first NZ Pacific
artists to have #1 hit in 8 different countries and to sell over
a million albums.
Sister Christina was nominated in the NZ music
awards and lent her vocals to a number of NZ's best musicians
and is currently working with Dawn Raid.
Overall the family has won over 12 NZ music
awards and number of Gold and platinum disks, and this can be
contributed to all the work Phillip did in the early days of UPR.
UPR will continue to be be the 'Pioneers of the
Pacifikan frontier'
